Chichester Psalms was commissioned for the 1965 Southern Cathedrals Festival at Chichester Cathedral. It was Bernstein's first composition after his 1963 Third Symphony (Kaddish), both overtly Jewish works. With a chorus singing texts in Hebrew, Chichester Psalms has been described as affirmative and at times serene.

John Rutter's "exalted, devotional and jubilant" Gloria is a musical setting of parts of the Latin Gloria in three movements. It was composed in 1974.

  • Bernstein: Chichester Psalms in the full orchestra version
  • Rutter: Gloria
  • Barber: Adagio for Strings
  • Copland: Appalachian Spring
  • Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man

Orchestra: Southern Sinfonia
